RUTH GOLE'S DEVILS FOOD CUPCAKES

Cook sugar, chocolate and water over low heat until smooth, dissolve butter in mixture; let cool. Mix buttermilk and baking soda in large bowl; add beaten egg, mix. When chocolate mixture is cool, add to buttermilk mixture. Add vanilla and mix well. Fold in flour until smooth.
Fill muffin papers 2/3 full. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or mini muffins for 8-10 minutes. Makes 20 full size or 48 small cupcakes.
MOCHA FROSTING:
2 sq. baking chocolate
2 tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. very strong coffee
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/4 c. powdered sugar
Melt chocolate and butter together over low heat, or in microwave. Add coffee and vanilla; mix well. Add powdered sugar gradually and mix to spreading consistency.
