COFFEE CAKE HELLWIG (Finnish)

Ingredients

• 3/4 c. brown sugar
• 1/2 c. white sugar
• 2 1/2 c. flour
• 3/4 c. oil
• 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
• 2 eggs, beaten
• 1 c. sour milk or buttermilk (can use 1 c. milk and 1 tbsp. vinegar)
• 1 tsp. soda
• 1 tsp. baking powder

  TOPPING:

  1 tsp. cinnamon

• 1 c. nuts (optional)

Directions

Cream together the sugars, flour, oil, and nutmeg. Take out 3/4 cup of this mixture; add cinnamon and chopped nuts to it and set aside for the topping.

Add to the remainder of the first mixture the eggs, milk and soda. Beat well, and add the baking powder before putting in a greased 9x13 inch pan. Sprinkle the reserved topping mixture on top, and bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
